Shirts are set to big one of the hottest women's fashion trends of 2016. The catwalks from Milan to Paris, London to New York all recognised the versatility of the classic white shirt.

At Anthony Vaccarello the reinvented white shirt revealed a seductive glimpse of flesh and a tie waist, it was worn with stonewashed boyfriend jeans and plenty of attitude.

Amanda Wakeley opted for a more laissez-faire effect with a slouchy cross-over shirt complete with trailing hemlines. Worn with loose suit trousers, this look added a fluid femininity to a masculine source of inspiration.

At Fendi the shirt featured ¾ length puff sleeves and a princess neckline. Tucked into high-waisted mocha coloured hareem pants, this look gave a cheeky nod to the power dressing of the 80s but benefitted from a beautiful lack of structure and rigidity.

Vera Wang showcased her oversized white shirts by wearing them with just the first couple of buttons fastened, and teaming them with high-waisted black hot pants and peep toe platform ankle boots in black stretch fabric. There was a touch of Mia Wallis to the blunt fringes and poker-straight black locks of the models, and I imagine that the infamous dance scene from Pulp Fiction featured on the mood board for this design.

Jenny Packham opted for a tie front white blouse, teamed with a vast dense black maxi skirt. Phillip Lim favoured high necklines and ruffles in his Victoriana themed interpretation of the white shirt.

Another huge fashion for spring/summer 2016 is wearing underwear as outerwear. Balenciaga, Alexander Wang, Pucci, Calvin Klein, Céline and Givenchy all chose to send their models up the runways in lingerie inspired daywear.

A great way to embrace the white shirt craze but make it entirely your own is to wear a white shirt with an underbust corset. Of course, by doing this you are also totting up extra style point by expressing the current trend for underwear as outerwear.

It can also be worn over a delicate camisole, or gossamer vest top or even to add intrigue to a fitted dress. The white shirt can also be reinvented in other ways. Worn with jeans or a mini skirt, tied at the waist over a corset dress. Thrown over a full corset if you are feeling a little exposed. The white shirt can also be the perfect bridge from work to party. It can look demure in the office when worn buttoned up to the neck and concealing your corset, wear with a pencil skirt for a smart chic look. Then all you need to do is remove your shirt, let your hair down, add a pop of colour to your lips and you are ready to party. Cotton shirts are perfect for this as they can fold up small and fit into a decent-sized handbag. The possibilities are endless.

The final day of fun, creative and versatile looks for Valentine’s Day. Pillow Fort Movie Night

A fun adventure for Valentine’s Day; the pillow fort. Build with what you can, pick a movie, your favorite snack, and a little something to set the mood. This brings the sweet memories of make believe and adds an adult twist. I paired this sweet pink gingham corset with a white petticoat and thigh-highs.

*Hint: When planning a romantic evening try and keep perspective on your environment. A small enclosed pillow fort may not be conducive to wearing heels. Planning well for a few moments can help create an unforgettable evening.

Adding some fun and softness to your look can often mean you explore different textures and genres to create something all your own. I paired a black leather corset with a red tutu and floral tights for a new twist on a classic staple to any wardrobe.

*Hint: Leather items do not breathe. A light dust of baby power can assist with comfort, if you will be in a place that might get warm like a concert venue.

Creating your own statement with your look can be both fun and challenging. I paired the beautiful pattern of this black and silver corset with the fun bright pink of the tutu, thus creating a look that is both eye-catching and whimsical. *Hint: Please always check in a mirror when wearing tulle. Tulle in a single layer is see-through. Layered, it can become opaque quickly. Always check in a mirror to ensure that you are not showing more than you intended.

An unexpected surprise for your sweetie is to don something a bit fun and flirty as a surprise. This Rose and Skull corset is a good balance of sweet and spicy paired with red fishnets and black heels.

*Hint: Make sure that you put your full fishnet tights on prior to lacing-up your corset. It’s very difficult to tuck the top of your tights in if you wait until after.

An evening out is the recipe for great conversation and laughs. It starts with having a great look that makes you feel your best. No matter what type of bar or pub you choose for the evening, you can dress up or down your corset to match. You want an aura of mystery and fun that corsets can offer. This red and black brocade corded corset is paired with black skinny jeans, a versatile black bolero jacket and sequined heels.

*Hint: Check before you go out that your lower body can move freely sitting and standing. If you are going to be in an establishment where you might be sitting, ensure your clothes don’t gap when you sit and that you can actually sit down. I recommend keeping the laces on the lower half of your corset a bit looser to ensure movement and a little flexibility. You don’t always need to tight-lace to look beautiful.

A night out with your friends at the Pool Hall is often the start of the best stories and the foundation of many adventures. Working something into your look that shows a bit of fun and flare is essential in the success of the evening. I have paired this beautiful red floral corset with a casual pair of skinny jeans and some red sparkly heels. This look is great for going to the bars for a game of pool and still looks fun and sexy, just in case you meet your dream date.

*Hint: Break in your shoes. Make sure you wear your shoes a little bit before you plan on wearing them out for long periods of time. I find wearing mine around the house with a pair of socks gets them to them to a place where they are comfortable.

Romantic Evening Out

Walking hand in hand on a beautiful, dark night with full moon and the light smell of the end of winter in the air is the type of romantic memory that brings a smile to your face. Finding something that is romantic and still expresses your unique individuality can be, at times, a balancing act. I’ve created this look with a long red/black corded corset, sexy red fishnets, leather miniskirt, knee-high patent leather boots and a long velvet coat.

*Hint: I find putting my boots on before the corset to be essential in stress free dressing.

Some dates just implore us to bring our inner girlie girl out to play. Corsets can portray a variety of preferences and your own individual personality. Make a statement with a retro pink gingham corset, black, rolled skinny jeans, some sweet, pink pumps and a whimsical hat.

*Hint: When wearing new high heels, make sure to scuff the bottoms to avoid slipping on smooth surfaces. I typically walk out to some asphalt and “do the twist” much to the delight of my neighbors, who no doubt question if I’ve gone round the bend and admire my extensive shoe collection..
