Perhaps one thing that most everybody who puts a corset on for the first time loves most about it is the way you quite literally achieve instant results. Your waist, in a matter of the time it takes to lace yourself in comfortably, goes from its original size right down by 4" to 5" with a steel boned corset or even down by 6" to 7" with a waist training corset. A virtually instant and impressive difference!

However, for those of us who wish to waist train or even just wear our corsets, if not all day long, then certainly on a regular basis, we must learn to practice a touch of patience so that we can properly season our corset.

To "season" your corset might sound like a fancy and exclusive term, but its really quite simple. It basically means to "break it in".

The very same way you wouldn't choose to wear your newest shoes out for a long walk, you also wouldn't want to take your corset straight out of its package, tighten it to its fullest capacity and not take it off again for 6-10 hours.

If you were to do this (put it on and lace it to its fullest capacity straight out of the package), then you risk damaging the corset and causing yourself significant discomfort.

So, how does one season their corset? Simple! Just follow these basic steps and your corset will be fully molded and shaped to your unique curves in roughly 7-10 days:

• Before trying to fasten your corset, make sure that you have fully loosened the back laces. This will insure that you do not warp the front busk by trying to hard to get it to fasten.
• Once fastened, gently pull the laces in until the corset feels lightly snug. To a degree where if you wanted to, you could still tighten the corset further, but for the time being, stop there!
• After wearing your corset like this for 45 minutes to an hour, feel free to take the laces in a touch more.
• Continue to take the laces in a touch more after every 45 minute to 1 hour interval until the corset is fully tightened.
• Do not wear your corset tightened to its full capacity for over 1-2 hours.

Continue these steps daily for 1 week to 10 days, and by the end of that period your corset will be well seasoned, the laces will slide smoothly between the grommets, the front busk closure will fasten up with nary any effort and you will be able to take your corset in to its fullest degree with no gaps or pulling, no warping or bending of the bones.

On a recent episode of the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Sophia Bush opened up about her feelings in regards to her body and we couldn’t be happier!

"Hey, yeah I'm going to embrace my body and own it for me, not anyone else. And I'm curvy. I'm not some rail-thin, 6-foot-tall runway model who was just born that way. I was born like this. And that's A-OK."

And even more so than the low-cut white dress she wore on the show, her recent appearance on the April cover of Maxim Magazine in a sheer mesh overbust corset definitely got a lot of attention (like what she's wearing? take a look at our gorgeous sheer mesh corset!).

But how refreshing is it that a celebrity is finally speaking openly about accepting what she’s been given? Where it’s not an entire interview with them droning on and on about their daily 6 hour work outs and their flavorless ‘paleo diet’, no?

Poor Kim Kardashian! In a recent article in the Mirror, her recent efforts to get her body into its best shape for her upcoming wedding day through use of the corset diet were reported. The entire feel of the article was condescending, uninformed and just plain mean.

Now, we get it: cynicism and criticism sell tabloids. And it’s true: many of us are much quicker to fan straight through to view who got on the worst-dressed list more so than who was deemed best-dressed. But when it comes to a direct slam on a person’s efforts to better themselves, to feel good about themselves, especially when their motivation is their wedding day, it needs to be addressed.

In earlier reports, Jessica Alba was quoted that she tried out the corset diet after recently giving birth and it worked! She gives the corset diet the bulk of credit for regaining her pre-baby body.

And let’s be real: I’m talking about celebrities here. They are financially lucky enough to hire personal chefs, personal trainers, they can even afford to hire people just to motivate them and encourage them along! Yet some of them still turn to the corset to help them along. And do you know why? Because it is a perfectly safe and effective way to see results!

Wearing your corset throughout the day helps you feel more conscious of your body. You are more aware of your posture (good posture alone increases your metabolism by 10%) and it makes you more mindful about your food portions. Because of the tension the corset adds to the core, you won’t be as likely to eat until you feel like you can’t possibly have another bite: rather, it helps you feel full once you have actually had enough. It is a very convenient way to help avoid over-indulging.

So, besides the fact that there is no harm in wearing your corset, there also shouldn’t be this immediate negative judgment on those of us for whom it works. For those of us for whom it helps deliver the results that no other regimen has been able to help us achieve.

A woman’s efforts to feel better about herself, her efforts to feel comfortable in her own skin, those efforts deserve to be applauded not scrutinized and criticized. And when it comes to your “big day”? How about we cheer each other on for a change? How about we support each other for once? Your wedding day should be about nothing but the overwhelming feeling of happiness knowing that you have found someone with whom you want to spend the rest of your life. It shouldn’t be an opportunity to point and snicker at the poor girl’s attempts to look like her best self for the day that will change her life for the rest of her life.

Corsets can offer endless possibilities when paired with your outfit. They can add just the right amount of sexy, a dash of retro or Victorian flare and are definitely a smart choice for those looking to complete their steampunk look.

But then there are those of us who would rather keep things discreet and wear our corsets underneath our clothes. Whether this is because a corset doesn’t tie in with your office attire or because less than the look it offers, you are interested in the support it offers your back or the enviable hourglass shape it delivers.

Here are a few tips on how to keep things “under wraps”:

Try to avoid:

Fitted knits

Fitted knits will not do the greatest job in keeping your corset discreet. Knits tend to be clingy and as a result, the front busk closure, back grommets, cording and any trim will definitely be apparent under your favourite fitted knit

Anything sheer

This one should go without saying, but yes: anything that is even slightly sheer will leave your corset visible. Whether it is a fitted sheer or a flowy sheer, your corset will definitely make an appearance.

Tying your cord into a thicker knot that necessary

When it comes to fashioning the bunny ears at the back of the corset into a bow, some people tend to either double knot it to keep it secure, or they pull the bunny ears down to the same length as the ends of the cording. All of these situations create a larger mass of cord right above the small of the back, which then leads to a bit of a lump that shows once you layer your top or dress over your corset.

A solution is to not double tie your bow. I promise that creating an everyday bow (think of it as tying your shoe-laces) will be plenty secure!

Also, don’t worry too much about making the bow as short in length as possible. The longer you leave the cording, the less it bunches and the more easily you can then tuck the train of the cord into your skirt or pants.

Too much trim

Avoid too many details or trim. The best bet is to go with a simply underbust corset and if you want something a little flashier in the event you do choose to wear your corset over your outfit, I recommend selecting a print, rather than something with decorative ruffles, trims or bows.

Things to Embrace:

Woven clothes

Contrary to a knit, woven garments don’t have the same “cling” to them and thusly will not contour every last detail of your corset.

An Underbust Corset

Yes, absolutely you can wear an overbust beneath your clothes, however many women find that the shape a corset creates for the bust is more flattering when worn alone and less flattering when their clothes drape over the silhouette.

Give some of these tips a try and I am confident that you will be the only one who knows you’ve got a corset on under there!

Corsets are classic. Even after they were no longer part of one's daily wardrobe, there has always been a passionate a devoted group of us who just love them. But sometimes, even the most devoted corset wearer wants a break from being all trussed up...

Well, for those of you who would enjoy a bit of a break or fro those of you who love the look of a corset but not the feel of a steel boned corset, there are fashion corsets! Its like having the beauty of a corset but the comfort of your favorite sexy top.

The major difference between a steel boned corset and a fashion corset is the boning. Fashion corsets are made with acrylic boning, which offers the corset a degree of support and control but not the same sort of waist reduction of a steel boned corset, though they still do bring out your already lovely curves! Just look at how nicely this little number brings out her waist:

Fashion corsets are also made of lighter material and frequently a more decorative ribbon lacing up the back panels.

Overall, they are a fantastic choice for those interested in the look but not the 'rigidity' a steel boned corset or a wait training corset would offer.

Let me start by saying (in case you haven't yet figured it out!) I absotively posolutely l-o-v-e corsets! They way they cinch in the waist, accentuate your feminine shape and even provide fantastic back support. They smooth away all of our troublesome areas and bring out our sexy curves.

But let's look a little more closely at one of the most common reasons we love our corsets: tummy control, am I right? So many of us just love the way a corset can smooth out our tummies. And because of this, so many people are immediately drawn to the idea of a 'long' corset. It sounds like it would make sense: the longer the corset is, the lower it will sit on the hip and therefore, the more tummy coverage it will provide, right? Well, yes: the corset will cover more of the core if it is a long style, but it is important to know that 'longs' aren't for every body/everybody.

In general, if we take a look at our size guide, a long corset is recommended for those of us who are 5'6" or taller, or have got a longer trunk (usually about 13" from the base of your sternum to lower waist). If these measures do not describe your proportions then you very likely will not enjoy how a long corset feels on your frame.

2 of the most common things you will more than likely experience if you don't need a long corset are:

1. If it is a long overbust corset, you may notice that it sits uncomfortably high under the arms.
2. Whether it is a long overbust or underbust, you may notice that it digs into the hips when you are sat because of the extra length to the style.

My point in all this is to reconsider going with a long style corset if you are not taller than 5'6" or if your trunk does not measure more than 13". A regular length corset will provide plenty of tummy control but without the discomfort of a long.
